Oncology or cancer treatments are increasingly being more developed and we at the oncology department in Texas Specialty Clinic are continually progressing to provide most effective and better-targeted treatments. The purpose of our mission is simple yet holistic, that is -

    • Detection and elimination of the malignant tumors to improve cancer condition
    • Prevention of recurrence of cancerous tumors
    • Post-treatment monitoring and counseling of patients to follow the doctor’s advice and not to skip medication when they feel better.

Cancer therapy is personalized, which means that the treatments for different people may vary depending on factors such as cell type, the location of tumors, how fast could they spread, patient’s overall condition and other illnesses of the patients. There are many forms of oncology treatments such as-

    • Cancer surgery,
    • Radiotherapy,
    • Chemotherapy,
    • Hormone therapy,
    • Immunological therapy,
    • Bone marrow transplant,
    • Cryoablation, and
    • Oral smart drug delivery(also called targeted drug delivery).

These are used in combinations. Which combination will suit you best will be decided by the doctor after talking to you. You can give your views on the treatment recommendation. Oncology treatment may also involve specialists from different medical fields.

    Different types of cancer treatments

Combination therapy: Oncologists often resort to combination therapy which makes use of many treatment forms, such as surgery, radiotherapy, and drugs. The purpose of combination therapy is to increase the patient’s scope for recovery.

Adjuvant therapy: This is used post surgery in the form of chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Adjuvant therapy destroys the cancer cells and improves patient’s prognosis.

Supportive therapy: This is applied to alleviate symptoms caused by cancer or its treatment. For instance, when anti-nausea medication is used during chemotherapy, it’s a form of supportive therapy.

Palliative therapy: This is a care service that helps to treat patient’s physical and psychological symptoms arising from the cancer treatment. Palliative care may continue for months or even years. The common post-treatment symptoms handled by palliative therapy are the pain, constipation, nausea, fatigue, and confusion.
